What have I been doing?

Okay, so here's what I haven't been doing:

Sleeping.

I need to sit down and evaluate what's going on with this because for about two or three weeks I've been watching it happen (I don't sleep) and I haven't taken much time to figure it out. It sucks, I can tell you that. This morning? At 4 a.m.? I was hating not sleeping. And the thing is, I wasn't even really very tired. I should've just gotten up and done something (dishes? laundry? TV?) but no. Instead I posted stupid status updates on Facebook and read every New York Times article available on my little iPhone NY Times app. Including the marriage announcements, which are borrring (and these people are just too fucking hip for their own good). Got some good advice from my FB friends, and tonight I'm going to try some of them (except for the one guy who suggested I try "the good herb." Unless of course he was talking about lavender, which I understand has some soporific effects.

Wish me luck.

  1. here's wishing you much luck!

medications all failed me. even the good herb. cotton mouth at 3am? not good.

i've had reasonably good success with listening to meditation-type music on my iPod. even if i don't get back to sleep, i do get some rest, and -- even better -- i seem less worried about the fact that i'm awake.

  2. Good luck! I hope your night goes better. Mine have been really hard too, just lots of waking up. If you find something that works, let me know. :)

  3. Uggg. Nightmare.
On the plus side somebody once made me read Covey's The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People in hopes of making me a better person than I currently was.
Aside from the fact that the book itself put me to sleep, it said that super achievers only get about 4 hours of sleep a night.
    Perhaps you are evolving?

  4. If I'm evolving I'd better watch that movie "Altered States" again so I know what to expect.

It's stupid of me to complain about no sleep during the week of tech rehearsals before a show opening at City Garage - got home at 12:30 last night. There's no way I'll get normal this week but hopefully the disruption will confuse my body into being grateful for sleep at 10 after this week is over.

    Yeah, right.

    Will keep you posted. Thanks!
